This is a very easy DIY project to create paper stars that you can use to decorate at Christmas or any time of the year and for very little effort the results are impressive.
You can use them to decorate your Christmas tree, your staircase or to decorate you wrapped presents.
It is environmentally friendly as you are just using paper so they are recyclable when you are finished with them. For other sustainable ways to enjoy Christmas you can read my blog post. I plan to store them carefully and reuse them every year.

What you will need
You can make the stars as big or as small as you like. You can cut patterns into them or leave them plain depending on what you want to do with them. Just make sure you have a strong scissors to cut through the layers of paper.
What you will need:
- Paper (wallpaper, craft paper, wrapping paper, newspaper)
- Scissors
- Ruler/pencil (or you can wing it)
- String
- Glue
Cut out your paper
Lay out your paper and cut a piece about twice as long as it is wide. Around 30cm by 15cm works well for a medium sized star.

Fold the paper into a fan
Fold the paper over to make a fan. You can make the folds as thick as you like but 1.5 – 2cm is a good size.

Keep folding it over and back until you have made your fan.

Tie the fan in the middle
When you have finished and you have folded all the paper pinch the middle of the fan.

Tie string around the middle, maybe two or three times around and knot it at the back.

Cut the edges of your fan
Cut the edges so that the star will have pointy edges. This is where having a sharp scissors comes in useful.

Cut both edges so that they are matching.

Glue the fan together on both sides
Glue one side of the fan and stick the other side to it.

Hold the sides together until the glue has stuck.

Do the same on the other side. You can stick the string along the middle of paper so that it sits out at the top of the star.

Now you have a beautiful paper star to hang

Other options for the DIY Paper Stars
If you want to make patterns in your stars you can cut out shapes on both sides of the string before you glue it together.

Depending on what you make the DIY paper stars out of they are lightweight enough to hang from lights or around a mirror.

I hope you enjoy making these stars. Be sure to comment below and share this with anyone you think might find it useful.
