This is simple DIY task to make paper bats for Halloween. It’s easy to do and is very effective when you cover your walls in bats. You can stick them anywhere, walls, stairs, shelves or on your fireplace. You can make them as big or as small as you like and once you cut out a few you will get much quicker at it.
It is also an eco friendly decoration as the bats can be saved and reused every year in different spaces around your house. They are made of card or paper so can also be recycled when you are finished with them.

What you will need:
- Black paper or card
- Scissors
- Bat template
- Reusable adhesive (Blu tack)
Step 1: Draw out bat template
If you are using black paper cut it into a rectangle. Alternatively you can use black paper card. Start by folding over you black paper or card in half. You will open out the bats after cutting them out.

Draw a template similar to the one below that you can reuse over and over.

Get your template and lay it on the paper card against the folded edge and draw around it in pencil. Draw around it a few times on the paper until you have filled up the card.

Step 2: Cut out bat shapes
Use your scissors to cut out the bat shapes. Keep drawing and cutting out bats until you have as many as you want.

Step 3: Stick up your DIY Black Bats
Use reusable adhesive (blu tack) to stick them on the wall or fireplace, shelf, stairs etc. and keep sticking them on until you have enough. I like to start with the bigger bats at the bottom and make them smaller as I move up the wall or fireplace.
